About Us

We are Al and Joni Gordon, just two people who have a love of Terriers. We acquired our first Westie, Lady Button Eyes, about 30 years ago. Like a potato chip, one is never enough. It wasn’t long before another joined the family, a little male named Tam MacAndrew. Several years later, we had our first litter and thus began Grey House Westies. We then had the opportunity to get a little Scottie. Our first was Maggie. Because of our love for her and her puppies our website name became Grey House Terriers and, as they say, the rest is history. Our Westies are too old to breed, but they remain loyal family pets. All of our breeding attention now goes to our Scotties.

A few years ago, we had the opportunity to move to Middle Tennessee to be closer to family, and we love it here. So do our dogs! We were fortunate to find a home with 6 acres to devote to our dogs. Because of our moving, our daughter Kimberly has fallen for these dogs and is following in the family tradition of loving and breeding Scotties. It is truly a family affair. We have neighbors who raise Black Angus cattle, goats and there are many tree Nurseries all around us. Acres and acres of trees, planted all in a row. The views in spring and autumn are spectacular.

It is very fitting that we breed the wonderful little dogs from Scotland. The Gordon name is very prevalent in Scottish History, and we still have family living there. They have visited us here several times, and it is a dream of ours to be able to visit their homes in the future. I’m sure when we do we’ll be looking for Scotties when we’re there!

We’re a very small player in the breeding business, and we strive to keep it that way. Because we have a small number of breeding dogs, we get to spend more one on one time with each of them. Unlike many other breeders, we don’t sell off our adult dogs when we decide they are no longer going to be bred. These dogs are part of our family now and they will be forever. Because of this care for our adult dogs, we don’t have litters of puppies every time you look at our web site. We breed our girls only once each year because healthy and happy Mommies have healthy and happy puppies. We may have several periods each year when we do not have any puppies at all.

All of our puppies are born inside of our home, and they remain inside until they have their first set of shots. We want them to be comfortable in our home, and not be afraid of people or normal household sounds. We are very serious about their mental and physical health and well being. Raising a litter of well balanced healthy puppy take a lot of time, devotion and hard work. If someone always has 2 or 3 litters of puppies available, ask yourself "how much time are they really spending with these puppies"?

We strive for providing high quality, well tempered and well balanced dogs to share with the world. Our customers tell us that they can see our puppies are well cared for, quality dogs. We have customers who are now on their 3rd or 4th Grey House Terrier. That is the ultimate compliment and shows us we are doing exactly what we set out to do.

As always, if you have any questions about either of these two breeds, we are always available to answer your questions at greyhouseterriers@yahoo.com.
